אין עיניהם תלויות אלא בו

Their eyes look only to Him

Tattooed by: Georgia Grey, New Jersey, USA

Joanna from Williamsburg, VA, came to us with a quiet but powerful request. She wanted something that could hold the depth of her story without needing to explain it. The phrase she chose comes from an ancient rabbinic teaching on Psalms:

אין עיניהם תלויות אלא בו

“Their eyes look only to Him.”

It is gentle and spare but filled with meaning.

When Joanna was eight, she lost both her parents in a car accident. That kind of loss leaves deep marks. Over time, she shaped those marks into meaning. She became a scholar of religion and sacred art, someone who writes about calligraphy not just as visual beauty but as a language of the soul.

She spoke about the lifelong work of integrating pain and identity, of making sense of the fragments left behind. Her tattoo needed to reflect that same quiet complexity.

Gabriel created a design to meet that need. Two circles, one smaller and one larger, gently intertwined. Each holds its own shape while flowing into the other. It is a visual expression of what it means to find belonging not by erasing yourself, but by being recognized and held.

This piece is more than memory. It is a mark of resilience and self-definition. A tender reminder of the pain that shaped her and the strength she chose to grow from it.
